This breed is used from generation to generation as waterfowl and truffle hunting dogs. In the 1990s, British and Swedish breeders began to take an interest in the breed. Since then, many lagottos have been inhabited in these regions and in Switzerland, but not yet in North America.

The Lagottos, who have been transformed from water dogs into truffle hunting dogs, are gradually losing their hunting ability after they set out as mushroom hunting dogs, but their excellent sense of smell has been further developed and they are proving to be prominent in finding expensive truffles. Currently, his ability is recognized not only in Italy but also around the world, and he is active as a truffle dog. He also worked as a police dog and drug search dog.
Personality And Traits
The Lagotto Romagnolo is easy to train due to its loyal and affectionate mastery and excellent ability to learn. They are also very sociable and cooperative, so they get along well with other pets such as dogs and cats, and they are also kept as pets.
Although this dog resembles a poodle or bichon frize in appearance, this robust and square breed is an old hunting dog with a fierce, sharp barking at work. This dog’s dark coat will brighten over time and will always be lively. Sturdy, playful, and well adapted to everyday outdoor activities. Although the origin of the lineage was small, no genetic defects were found.
Appearance And Features
The appearance of Lagotto Romagnolo is a medium-sized dog with a height of 43-48 cm for males and 41-46 cm for females and weighs 13-16 kg for males and 11-14 kg for females. This dog looks so much like a poodle and a bichon frize, they are so similar that you can only feel the difference in weight and color.
The skull (head) is round and the head is wide. The body is square and the legs are elongated. The feet are covered with small, abundant hairs. The coat is short and thick, like wool, so it does not get wet easily. Colors include Dirty White, Brown Roan, Unicolor Brown, Unicolor Orange, and White with Brown Orange Spots.
